Ocean County Library to Offer the Art of Japanese Flower Arranging

May 08, 2018

TOMS RIVER -  The Ocean County Library will present “Ikebana Japanese Flower Arranging” at two branches.
Glenys Baulderstone, artist and presenter, will introduce the technique of Ikebana, a highly stylized art of Japanese flower arranging. Unlike Western arrangements, Ikebana focuses on the individual stem, leaf or flower.
The program will take place at the following branches:
•           Long Beach Island Branch, 217 S. Central Ave. in Surf City, 609-494-2480,
6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, May 21.
•           Toms River Branch, 101 Washington St., 732-349-6200, 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 30.
Baulderstone will demonstrate how to make arrangements in both Moribana and Nageire styles, which she has studied at Sogetsu, an Ikebana and floral art school in Japan.
The program is free and open to the public, but registration is required. To register call the branches or visit www.theoceancountylibrary.org and click Events & News.
